Disaster Aid Applicants Urged To Return SBA Packets

Nashville, TN -- The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) remind Tennessee residents to complete and return their disaster loan applications, even if they don't intend to take a loan. The loan applications were distributed to some of those who registered for disaster assistance following the November tornadoes. The deadline to return disaster loan applications is January 13, 2003.
Officials say it is important to complete the loan packet because it will affect the type of assistance that is offered. The SBA needs to determine if an applicant can repay a low interest loan and if the applicant can, one will be offered. If the SBA does not approve the loan, the applicant may be eligible to receive a grant from FEMA for specific unmet needs.
The first step of the disaster assistance process is to register by calling FEMA toll-free, 1-800-621-FEMA (1-800-621-3362), or for those with speech or hearing impairments, (TTY) 1-800-462-7585. For more information about SBA disaster loans, call 1-800-359-2227. The deadline for registration is also January 13, 2003.
The 20 Tennessee counties that have been declared eligible for assistance to individuals, households and businesses are Anderson, Bedford, Bledsoe, Carroll, Coffee, Crockett, Cumberland, Fentress, Gibson, Henderson, Madison, Marshall, Montgomery, Morgan, Roane, Rutherford, Scott, Sumner, Tipton, and Van Buren.
