Disaster Recovery Centers Remain Closed Through Monday

RALEIGH, N.C. -- All Federal/State disaster recovery centers opened in the aftermath of Hurricane Floyd will remain closed through Monday, Oct. 18, because of the expected heavy rainfall from Hurricane Irene that could affect travel conditions in eastern and central portions of the state.
"Keeping people out of harms way is always our first priority," said Federal Coordinating Officer Glenn Woodard. "Potential stormwater run-offs and local flooding from Hurricane Irene could pose a risk to people seeking assistance as well as to recovery workers," Woodard explained. The closure includes mobile disaster recovery centers, mobile mitigation centers and all fixed recovery centers, Woodard said.
State Coordinating Officer Eric Tolbert said North Carolina residents who have weather-related emergencies should contact their county emergency management office. He also reminded people to avoid driving on flooded roads.
All disaster recovery centers are scheduled to reopen Tuesday, Oct. 19, at 8 a.m.
