Wayne County Recovery Center Moves To New Location

RALEIGH, N.C. -- The Wayne County disaster recovery center in Goldsboro will re-locate this Saturday, Oct. 30th, from its present location at 208 West Chestnut St. to 138 West Walnut. The new location is at the corner of Walnut and James Streets in the Borden Building.
Personnel will remain at the current location on Saturday until the move is completed.
After relocating, the center's hours will be 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday until further notice.
More than 2,600 Wayne County residents have visited the local center since it opened on September 22nd. That figure represents over 60 percent of the 4,172 Wayne County applicants who have filed for disaster assistance in the aftermath of Hurricanes Floyd and Irene.
Staffed by specialists from the state, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) and volunteer agencies, the centers assist individuals and businesses by providing information about a variety of recovery programs. Those programs include housing assistance, available rental resources, SBA low-interest loan applications, crisis counseling, mitigation and other issues. The staff also helps storm victims determine the status of applications already filed.
The disaster recovery centers are intended to help disaster victims who have previously registered for assistance by calling the toll-free application hotline at 1-800-462-9029. Individuals with hearing or speech impairments who use special keyboard equipment (TTY) should call toll-free 1-800-462-7585. Officials urge applicants to bring their social security numbers when visiting a disaster center.
