» More Information on North Carolina Hurricane Floyd & Irene
RALEIGH, N.C. -- The deadline to register for federaland state disaster recovery assistance has been extended to Tuesday, December 14, for North Carolinians who suffered losses in Hurricanes Floyd and Irene. This means individuals and businesses affected by Hurricanes Floyd and Irene may apply for aid from federal and state recovery programs through the close of business on Dec. 14.
The extension was announced by officials of the North Carolina Emergency Management Division (NCEMD), Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA).
"Our intention is to make sure those people affected throughout the declared areas have ample opportunity to seek the federal and state assistance they need," said Federal Coordinating Officer Glenn C. Woodard. "We urge anyone who has not registered to do so right away."
Disaster Assistance to Date
More than 72,000 persons have already registered for assistance following the two hurricanes. Since the presidential disaster declaration, nearly $45,687,000 million has been disbursed for temporary housing assistance; $257,011,000 million in U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) loans have been approved for homeowners and businesses; and more than $39,554,000 has been allotted in individual and family grants.
Those affected by the disasters may apply for aid by calling the FEMA toll-free registration number 1-800-462-9029. Persons who are speech or hearing impaired and use special keyboard equipment can call TTY 1-800-462-7585.
