RALEIGH, N.C. -- The Thanksgiving holiday will be observed by Federal Emergency Management Agency disaster recovery employees on Thursday, Nov. 25. Disaster recovery centers, the FEMA help and application telephone lines, and all federal and state disaster recovery centers will be closed.

Operations will resume regular hours on Friday, Nov. 26.

The hours of the fixed disaster recovery centers are 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday. All are closed on Sunday. Mobile disaster recovery centers operate from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. Hours for the assistance application line (1-800-462-9029) (TTY 1-800-462-7585) are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday. The helpline (1-800-525-0321) has the same hours.

The extended deadline to register for federal and state disaster recovery assistance is Tuesday, Dec. 14. This means individuals and businesses affected by hurricanes Floyd and Irene may apply for aid from federal and state recovery programs through the close of business on Dec. 14.

Federal and state officials urge anyone with uninsured disaster losses who has not registered to do so soon.

More than 74,000 persons have already registered for assistance. Since the presidential disaster declaration, nearly $50.8 million has been disbursed for temporary housing assistance; $289.1 million in U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) loans have been approved for homeowners and businesses; and more than $43 million has been allotted in individual and family grants.
