Brunswick County to Get Damage Prevention Presentations

RALEIGH, N.C. -- Brunswick County residents who are rebuilding after the hurricane are invited to visit a mobile information center to learn how they might make their properties more disaster resistant.
Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) specialists will be on hand at the town hall in Navassa from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 11, with a mobile demonstration van. Visitors can go to the centers at any time during those hours. No appointment is needed.
Disaster-recovery specialists will offer advice on how to protect homes and businesses from all types of natural disasters. Drawings and models will illustrate various rebuilding techniques. Photographs will show how disaster-prevention measures taken prior to Hurricanes Floyd and Irene reduced property damage.
Brochures and flyers offer take-home information on flood-proofing floors and walls, preventing mildew, reducing risk to manufactured homes, constructing safe rooms, elevating heating and electrical panels and water heaters, and installing back-flow valves on sewer/septic systems.
The mobile centers have been touring eastern North Carolina to show disaster victims how to use mitigation measures to avoid future wind and flood damage.
