Charleston County BellSouth Building Hosts FEMA Disaster Recovery Center

CHARLESTON, S.C. -- Today, the Federal Emergency management Agency (FEMA) opened a Disaster Recovery Center for residents of Charleston County. The center is located on the first floor of the BellSouth Building at 385 Meeting Street.
FEMA funds (Individual and Family Grants) and SBA funds (Small Business Loans) are available for those who suffered uninsured losses. Residents must FIRST go through tele-registration by calling 1-800-462-9029. Hearing impaired may call TTY 1-800-462-7585. If residents need additional information after tele-registration, there will be representatives of FEMA and the Small Business Administration at the office at the BellSouth Building. The office is open from 9:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. daily until further notice.
Free parking is available in the Charleston Visitor, Reception and Transportation Center garage located by the BellSouth Building. Residents must get their parking ticket signed by a FEMA representative to present as they exit the garage.
BellSouth is donating the office space to FEMA. "BellSouth is proud to be of assistance to those who may have suffered losses during Hurricane Floyd," said Sis Marshall, Regional Director of BellSouth.
The space was donated at the request of Mayor Joseph P. Riley, Jr. "The location of a center which is centrally located for residents of Charleston County and easily accessible by public transportation is essential for our residents. We appreciate BellSouth making this space available," said Mayor Riley.
