Nashville, TN -- The Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA) mobile Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) will visit a neighborhood in Fayette County that was raked by the July 21st - 22nd severe storms, high winds and heavy rain.

The location, dates and time of the visit follows:

Applicants are encouraged to apply for assistance by phone before visiting a DRC. To apply for federal and state disaster assistance, call FEMA's toll-free application number, 1-800-621-FEMA (3362). The number for the speech or hearing impaired is TTY 1-800-462-7585.

Staffed by disaster assistance specialists from FEMA, U. S. Small Business Administration (SBA) and Tennessee Emergency Management Agency, the mobile unit will enable those who have registered for assistance to check the status of their applications.

In addition to the mobile unit, two fixed-site DRCs are currently open in Memphis. Their locations are 315 S. Hollywood Street (Fairgrounds) and #1 Auction Avenue (Pyramid Building). Hours of operation are 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday through Saturday.

The mobile DRC schedule is based on citizen needs. As the needs for federal and state disaster assistance change, the mobile unit's itinerary is changed accordingly.

On March 1, 2003, FEMA became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. FEMA's continuing mission within the new department is to lead the effort to prepare the nation for all hazards and effectively manage federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident. FEMA also initiates proactive mitigation activities, trains first responders, and manages Citizen Corps, the National Flood Insurance Program and the U.S. Fire Administration.
