Jackson, MS -- The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA)/State Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) located in Egypt is scheduled to close Friday, June 13, at 6:00 p.m. Until then the center will remain open daily, from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

The Egypt DRC is located at the Egypt Voting Precinct & Community Center, 253 County Road 177, in the Egypt community near Okolona.

"The Disaster Recovery Center provides an opportunity to learn more about available federal and state assistance programs and to check on the status of an application," said State Coordinating Officer Leon Shaifer. "Those who have not applied yet for disaster assistance have until July 22 to apply. Those who have applied but need additional help with their application can receive help by calling FEMA's toll-free Helpline at 1-800-621-FEMA (3362). The speech or hearing impaired should call TTY 1-800-462-7585."

The DRC is open to offer help to Mississippi homeowners, renters and business owners who may be eligible for state and federal assistance under the May 23rd presidential disaster declaration. President Bush declared nine Mississippi counties as disaster areas as a result of the May 5th through 8th severe storms, tornadoes and high winds.

"As of yesterday, 199 people have visited the DRC since it opened. There are only three days left to visit the DRC and meet face-to-face with disaster officials to have your questions answered or to learn more about what assistance programs are available to you. Don't be left out, visit the Egypt DRC today," FEMA's Federal Coordinating Officer Carlos Mitchell added.

Disaster assistance programs include temporary housing assistance, grants for serious other needs, necessary expenses not covered by insurance or other programs, and low interest loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) for disaster-damaged residential and business property. Disaster unemployment assistance, tax assistance and other special services are also available to eligible persons affected by the disaster.
