Nashville, TN -- A disaster recovery center will open in Murfreesboro, Tenn., noon to 6 p.m. Sunday (May 18) to provide information on state and federal assistance to families and individuals who sustained property losses in counties declared as disaster areas as a result of severe storms and tornadoes.

The recovery center, located at 630 Broadmor St., Suite 140, thereafter will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. seven days a week. At the center, disaster specialists will answer questions about assistance and applicants who have registered with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) may check the status of their assistance request.

To obtain assistance, residents of declared counties must register with FEMA by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) toll-free. Those with speech or hearing impairments can use the TDD number, 1-800-462-7585.

"Recovery centers bring recovery information directly to disaster victims. This brings a person-to-person touch to the process," said John D. White, director of the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency.

State and federal disaster specialists will staff the center. In addition representatives from the U.S. Small Business Administration will be on hand to answer any questions about low-interest disaster loans for homeowners, renters and businesses, and provide any extra help you may need or want with completing the loan application.
