Tupelo, MS -- Free legal assistance with disaster-related problems will be available to low-income residents of Mississippi's declared counties to answer legal questions and help replace important documents lost in the Feb. 16th and 24th storms and tornadoes.

Volunteer members of the Mississippi Bar Association Young Lawyers Division will be available Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Help can be obtained by calling 1-800-682-6423.

The lawyers can help with insurance claims for property losses and medical bills, assist in drawing up new wills and replacing deeds and other valuable documents, advise property owners on contracting for home repairs, help with landlord problems and prepare powers of attorney if needed.

Disaster legal services are meant for individuals and families unable to pay lawyer fees because of the disaster. Cases in which fees can be paid are turned over to the local lawyer referral service.
