FEMA has approved grants totaling $394,148 for housing assistance and $50,845 for other-needs assistance.

FEMA inspectors have completed 282 inspections of damaged homes.

The Disaster Recovery Centers in Union, Franklin, Gilmer, Madison, and Rabun Counties have been visited by 243 people since they opened September 23.

The U.S. Small Business Administration has issued 626 low-interest loan applications to home owners and 117 to businesses.

People who have suffered damage to their home, apartment or business property in the declared counties of Carroll, Cherokee, Cobb, Dawson, Dade, DeKalb, Early, Franklin, Fulton, Gilmer, Madison, Miller, Pickens Rabun, Towns, Union, and White are urged to apply for assistance by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362). The special number for those with hearing or speech impairment is TTY 1-800-462-7585.

After individuals have applied by phone, they may visit the Disaster Recovery Centers with any questions or to receive more specific information on federal and state recovery programs. For more information on FEMA disaster programs, visit the agency’s Web site at www.fema.gov.

On March 1, 2003, FEMA became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. FEMA's continuing mission within the new department is to lead the effort to prepare the nation for all hazards and effectively manage federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident. FEMA also initiates proactive mitigation activities, trains first responders, and manages the National Flood Insurance Program and the U.S. Fire Administration.
