ORLANDO, Fla.—Seven of the Disaster Recovery Centers (DRCs) located in the Gulf Coast area of Florida will resume operations at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, September 15, for those affected by Hurricanes Charley and Frances.
Two Hardee County DRCs…Pioneer Park at 2800 US Hwy 17S, Zolfo Springs, and the Migrant Workers Headstart Building, 5115 Mason Dixon Highway, Bowling Green…will merge into the Elks Club DRC operation, 318 West Main Street, Wauchula.
The seven DRCs resuming operations on Wednesday, September 15 are listed below:

All centers will continue to assist those affected by Hurricanes Charley and Frances from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., seven days a week until further notice. Sixteen DRCs are now back in operation.

An applicant may visit any one of the 16 Disaster Recovery Centers (DRCs) now open. If, for example, an applicant from Brevard County goes to Hardee County, he or she can be assisted at the Elks Club DRC.
The State Emergency Response Team (SERT) is a collaboration of Florida’s emergency management agencies led by the state coordinating officer. SERT’s mission is to ensure that Florida is prepared to respond to emergencies, recover from them, and mitigate their impact. On March 1, 2003, FEMA became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. FEMA's continuing mission within the new department is to lead the effort to prepare the nation for all hazards and effectively manage federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident. FEMA also initiates proactive mitigation activities, trains first responders, and manages the National Flood Insurance Program and the U.S. Fire Administration.
