FRANKFORT, Ky. - As the state-federal disaster recovery effort continues to reach out to Kentuckians, a visiting Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) will be making a series of stops beginning July 15 in Johnson and Pike counties.

The center will be in Pike County, Thursday through Saturday, July 15-17 at the Belfry Courthouse, 25320 US Hwy.119 N in Belfry. It will move to the Community Center, 232 Preston Street in Paintsville, Monday and Tuesday, July 19-20. The DRC will be open from 8:00a.m. - 6:00 p.m. at both stops.

At the center, state and Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) recovery specialists will provide information on available programs, including housing assistance, individual and household grants, U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) low-interest loan applications, business loans, mitigation, and other disaster-related programs to help cover residential and business losses not fully compensated by insurance.

Before visiting the DRC, applicants should register for assistance by calling toll-free 1-800-621-FEMA (3362). Individuals with speech or hearing impairments who use special keyboard equipment (TTY) should call 1-800-462-7585. Registration lines are open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., seven days a week, until further notice.

Applicants are reminded to bring their FEMA registration number and social security number when visiting the center. Applicants are not required to visit a DRC, but are invited to come by to ask disaster-related questions, get help with paperwork and obtain updated information on applications already filed.

On March 1, 2003, FEMA became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. FEMA's continuing mission within the new department is to lead the effort to prepare the nation for all hazards and effectively manage federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident. FEMA also initiates proactive mitigation activities, trains first responders and manages the National Flood Insurance Program and the U.S. Fire Administration.
