Disaster Information Helpline Available for Flood Victims in McKean County

HARRISBURG, Pa. -- A disaster information helpline is available for use by those McKean County residents affected by recent heavy rains and flooding.
Disaster victims who need information about disaster assistance or have questions about the status of their disaster assistance application can call the Federal Emergency Management Agency's helpline toll-free at 1-800-525-0321. People with hearing or speech impairments may call the helpline at 1-800-462-7585 (TTY).
Representatives from the FEMA and the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency (PEMA) encourage disaster victims with questions to use the toll-free helpline.
"Disaster victims can learn about the status of their applications, about housing programs, grants and loans by calling this number," Jack Schuback, federal coordinating officer for the disaster recovery, said.
President Clinton signed a major disaster declaration for McKean County Sept. 1.
Renters, homeowners and business owners in the designated cities and counties may apply for assistance by calling FEMA's toll-free registration line at 1-800-462-9029. Those with a speech or hearing impairment can call 1-800-462-7585 (TTY). Both the registration and helpline can be reached from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
