Disaster Recovery Center Opens In Franklin

RICHMOND, Va. -- A Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) opened in Franklin to assist people affected by the flooding caused by Hurricane Floyd, according to state and federal officials. The DRC is located in the Virginia National Guard Armory located at 900 Armory Drive in Franklin, and opened at 10 a.m. today (Thursday, September 22). It will operate from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and from 12 noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday.
Representatives at the DRC will be available to answer questions about federal, state and non-governmental programs and services that may be available for those affected by the recent disaster. State agencies represented will include the Departments of Aging, Mental Health, Mental Retardation and Substance Abuse; Taxation, the Bureau of Insurance; Legal Services and the Virginia Employment Commission. Other agencies staffing the center include the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA); Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD); Internal Revenue Service; Department of Agriculture; Environmental Protection Agency and American Red Cross.
Residents living in declared jurisdictions are urged to register by calling the toll-free number: 1-800-462-9029. Persons with speech or hearing impairments may call 1-800-462-7585 (TTY). Both numbers are available seven days a week from 7 a.m. to midnight.
