HAMPTON, Va. -- A mobile Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) will be in Accomack County beginning Monday to reach victims of Hurricane Floyd according to Virginia Department of Emergency Services and Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) officials. The mobile DRC is being used to reach disaster victims who have registered for assistance by calling FEMA toll-free 1-800-462-9029, but need additional assistance or have questions about their application. A mobile DRC will be stationed at the Saxis Volunteer Fire Department Monday through Wednesday, October 4-6, and at the Onancock Volunteer Fire Department Thursday through Saturday, October 7-9.

The hours of operation are:

Saxis Volunteer Fire Dept.
8337 Free School Lane
Mon. and Tues.
Oct. 4 and 5 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Wed., Oct. 6 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Onancock Volunteer Fire Dept.
9 Pine Street
Thurs. and Fri.
Oct. 7 and 8 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Sat., Oct. 9 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

This mobile unit can reach people that have been stricken by the disaster but aren't close to either the DRC in Hampton's Newmarket Fair shopping center or the one serving the Franklin/Southampton area," said Michael Cline, state coordinating officer for the disaster recovery effort. "With this DRC on wheels, we have the flexibility to reach disaster victims that can't reach us," added Robert J. Gunter, federal coordinating officer.

Representatives of state and federal agencies will be available at the mobile Disaster Recovery Center to answer questions about the status of disaster assistance applications, and to provide information about other services available through state and other federal agencies. We are encouraging anyone who sustained damage because of Hurricane Floyd to call and register for assistance," Gunter said.

"Beginning Monday, October 4, the toll-free registration number will be available from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., seven days a week. It had been operating until midnight, but nighttime calls have dropped considerably so we are reassigning operators to work on the Helpline." To register for assistance, call 1-800-462-9029 or TTY 1-800-7585 for people with speech and hearing impairments. If you have questions about disaster assistance programs or the status of your application after you have registered, call the FEMA Helpline, 1-800-525-0321.
