What is Project Impact? Frequently referred to as "Building Disaster Resistant Communities" is a program of the Federal Emergency Management Agency that seeks to reduce the personal and economic costs of disasters by bringing together community leaders, Citizens and businesses to prepare for and protect themselves against future natural disasters.

If you have applied for a loan with the Small Business Administration (SBA) you can get an additional 20 percent of the loan amount if you use it for mitigation purposes. What is mitigation? Any action designed to eliminate or reduce future damage.
Low interest disaster recovery loans are for homeowners as well as business owners. Call the SBA at (800) 659-2955.
Groundbreaking began on Mon. Oct. 25 for the mobile home site at the Southampton Agri-Business Industrial Park in Southampton County, where it will place travel trailers and mobile homes for hurricane victims.
The temporary housing will be provided to those unable to secure satisfactory housing while seeking a permanent residence. The state and local governments provides the site, the Federal Emergency Management Agency will finance the development of the site and purchase the travel trailers and mobile homes. FEMA has contracted with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to design and develop the site. Those qualifying for the homes will pay utilities. Each applicant will be evaluated on a case by case basis, and as each is qualified, a mobile home will be purchased. Travel trailers will be purchased locally.
Hampton residents who sustained damage by the Sept. 4 tornado spawned by Hurricane Dennis must be registered with FEMA by Nov.4 to be eligible for federal and state disaster assistance.
Virginia residents who live in the federally declared localities and sustained damage from Hurricane Floyd must be registered with FEMA by Nov.16 to be eligible for federal and state disaster assistance.
