NEW CASTLE, Del. -- Time is running out for people who sustained losses or damage as a result of the recent flooding and wind-driven rain during Hurricane Floyd to visit the Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) in Wilmington, federal and state disaster recovery officials said today.
Although the full Disaster Recovery Center will close on Thursday, Oct. 7, FEMA representatives will remain at the site until Oct. 14 to answer questions about disaster assistance programs. "During the first few days the DRC averaged service to approximately 100 victims a day, but that number has steadily decreased," Steven Adukaitis, FEMA federal coordinating officer, said.
Hours for the DRC are Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. until 6:30 p.m.; Saturday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.; and Sunday from 12 p.m. until 4 p.m.
Disaster victims should register for assistance by calling toll-free 1-800-462-9029 (TTY 1-800-462-7585) before visiting the DRC. FEMA's Helpline number, for questions other than registration is 1-800-525-0321 (TTY 1-800-462-7585) from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. each day.
Disaster assistance programs include housing assistance, grants for serious needs and necessary expenses not covered by insurance or other programs, and low-interest loans from SBA for the repair, restoration or replacement of flood-damaged property. Disaster unemployment assistance, tax assistance and other special services also are available to eligible persons affected by the disaster.
