NEW CASTLE, Del. -- Thursday is the last day for people who sustained losses or damage as a result of the recent flooding and wind-driven rain during Hurricane Floyd to visit the Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) in Wilmington, federal and state disaster recovery officials said today.
Although the full Disaster Recovery Center will close on Thursday, Oct. 7, FEMA representatives will remain at the site until Oct. 14 to answer questions about disaster assistance programs. Representatives from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) will also remain until Oct. 14 to assist clients with applications and forms.
Registering with the American Red Cross, whose representatives are in the DRC, should not be confused with registering for assistance with FEMA. This requires two separate registrations.
Hours of operation will remain Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. until 6:30 p.m; Saturday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.; and Sunday from 12 p.m. until 4 p.m.
Disaster victims should register for assistance by calling toll-free 1-800-462-9029 (TTY 1-800-462-7585) before visiting the DRC. FEMA's Helpline number, for questions other than registration is 1-800-525-0321 (TTY 1-800-462-7585) from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. each day.
Disaster assistance programs include housing assistance, grants for serious needs and necessary expenses not covered by insurance or other programs, and low-interest loans from SBA for the repair, restoration or replacement of flood-damaged property. Disaster unemployment assistance, tax assistance and other special services also are available to eligible persons affected by the disaster.
