Disaster Recovery Centers Closed On New Year's Day; Final Day Of Operation Scheduled For January 9

CHARLESTON, W. Va. -- Federal and State officials announced today the closing of Disaster Recovery Centers on New Year’s Day. Officials also announced that the three remaining centers will close permanently at 5 p.m. on January 9. The Disaster Recovery Centers serve residents who suffered damages as a result of the November storms.
The following Disaster Recovery Center will be closed on Thursday, January 1, and will close permanently at 5 p.m. on Friday, January 9.

On March 1, 2003, FEMA became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. FEMA's continuing mission within the new department is to lead the effort to prepare the nation for all hazards and effectively manage federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident. FEMA also initiates proactive mitigation activities, trains first responders, and manages the National Flood Insurance Program and the U.S. Fire Administration.
