Disaster Recovery Center In Cabell County Closes December 11th

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Federal and state officials announced the closing this week of the Cabell County Disaster Recovery Center (DRC). The center is open until close of business at 7 p.m. on Thursday, December 11, 2003.

The DRC is located at:

Milton Fire Department
341 E. Main Street
Milton, W. Va.

The center opens at 10 a.m. and closes permanently at 7 p.m., close of business on Thursday, December 11, 2003.

Anyone with questions or who would like to check on the status of his or her application in person should do so by 7 p.m. on the closing date. Residents who still have questions after the center closes may call the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The FEMA Helpline number is 1-800-621-3362 or, TTY 1-800-462-7585 for the hearing-impaired. Helpline representatives will be able to give the same information provided by officials at the recovery center.

On March 1, 2003, FEMA became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. FEMA's continuing mission within the new department is to lead the effort to prepare the nation for all hazards and effectively manage federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident. FEMA also initiates proactive mitigation activities, trains first responders, and manages Citizen Corps, the National Flood Insurance Program and the U.S. Fire Administration.
