FEMA's Registration and Helpline Hours Change

New Castle, DE -- Effective immediately, the toll-free Registration and Helpline number for FEMA, 1-800-621-FEMA (3362), is changing hours. The new hours of operation will be Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 pm. Eastern time, until further notice. Telephone lines will be closed on weekends. The new hours also apply to the TTY number for hearing/speech impaired, 1-800-462-7585.

Those who registered for state and federal disaster assistance can select the FEMA Helpline option by calling the toll-free number. The Helpline offers callers the opportunity to get additional information about their claims to update their applications.

Victims of tropical storm Henri and hurricane Isabel who have not heard from FEMA concerning their application can call the registration/helpline or to update their contact information.

On March 1, 2003, FEMA became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. FEMA's continuing mission within the new department is to lead the effort to prepare the nation for all hazards and effectively manage federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident. FEMA also initiates proactive mitigation activities, trains first responders, and manages Citizen Corps, the National Flood Insurance Program and the U.S. Fire Administration.
