New Castle, DE - Yes, disaster assistance is available for renters. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is offering several disaster aid programs that are available to anyone who suffered damage as a result of Tropical Storm Henri or Hurricane Isabel. Renters, along with homeowners, are encouraged to apply for this assistance by calling the toll-free registration number 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or TTY 1-800-462-7585.

Following is a summary of programs that are available specifically for renters who sustained damage to personal property during either of the above named storms.

On March 1, 2003, FEMA became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. FEMA's continuing mission within the new department is to lead the effort to prepare the nation for all hazards and effectively manage federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident. FEMA also initiates proactive mitigation activities, trains first responders, and manages Citizen Corps, the National Flood Insurance Program and the U.S. Fire Administration.
