Richmond, VA - Virginia's Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (VOAD), a statewide association of human services and faith-based organizations, is coordinating volunteers to help individuals with debris removal across the state.

People needing assistance with debris removal or clean-up can call the Hurricane Isabel Volunteer/Donations Hotline at (877) 245-5513 from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., seven days a week. Organizations or individuals interested in volunteering also are encouraged to call the hotline.

VOAD member organizations, in cooperation with local authorities, will be setting up centers throughout the state to recruit and coordinate volunteers. Individuals to help with debris removal and clean-up are needed as well as chainsaw operators (with their own chainsaws) and volunteer coordinators.

Several groups are currently helping with the recovery effort, including representatives from the Brethren, Lutheran, Roman Catholic and Episcopal churches and the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR), Mennonite Disaster Services, American Baptist Men, Adventist Community Services, the Southern Baptist Convention, and Southern Baptist Conservatives.
