Charleston, WV - State and federal officials announce the opening of a Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) on Thursday, March 27, in Big Chimney, Kanawha County, to assist those affected by the damage and losses caused by the severe winter storm Feb. 16 and continuing. DRCs also are open in Ripley, Hamlin and Lavalette.

The Kanawha County DRC is located at 4782 Chimney Dr. in Big Chimney, off Route 119.

All DRCs are open daily from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m.

Individuals are encouraged to call the Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA) toll-free teleregistration number 800-621-FEMA (3362) to apply for assistance. People with hearing or speech impairments may call (TTY) 800-462-7585.

West Virginia State Coordinating Officer Stephen S. Kappa and Federal Coordinating Officer Louis Botta urge those with questions to visit one of the centers. "There are many programs available for homeowners, renters and businesses," Kappa said. "This is an opportunity for people to sit down with different agencies and get their recovery process questions answered."

Representatives from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) will provide information on low-interest loans and help applicants complete disaster loan applications for homeowners, renters and businesses of all sizes. For more information, please visit SBA's Website @ www.SBA.gov/disaster.
