HARRISBURG, Pa. -- State and federal officials announced today that the joint federal/state Disaster Recovery Center in Carnegie to assist residents affected by the tropical storms of September will change its hours beginning Monday, Nov. 8.
The center will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Saturday, until further notice. It is located in Allegheny County at:

The Disaster Recovery Center is designed to provide more detailed program information to people who have already applied for assistance. To register, call the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) toll-free number: 1-800-621-FEMA (3362). The TTY for the speech or hearing impaired is 1-800-462-7585. Applicants can also register on-line at www.fema.gov.
“Anyone still needing assistance should visit the DRC,” said FEMA Federal Coordinating Officer Nick Russo “Our intent is to help people get back to a sense of normalcy as quickly as possible.”
“We want to provide a means for everyone affected by the September storms to receive the assistance they qualify for,” added State Coordinating Officer David M. Sanko.
On March 1, 2003, FEMA became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. FEMA's continuing mission within the new department is to lead the effort to prepare the nation for all hazards and effectively manage federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident. FEMA also initiates proactive mitigation activities, trains first responders, and manages the National Flood Insurance Program and the U.S. Fire Administration.
