CHARLESTON, W. Va. -- State and federal officials announce the opening of a mobile Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) in McDowell County next to City Hall in War, to assist those affected by the storms that began Memorial Day weekend. The mobile DRC will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday—for two days only. The information is as follows:

Location: Next to City Hall, Main Street, War, McDowell County
Opening Date: Friday, July 2
Closing Date: Saturday, July 3
Hours: 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. each day.

Federal and state disaster recovery officials encourage citizens to apply for disaster assistance by calling the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA’s) toll-free number 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) from
8 a.m. to 6 p.m., seven days a week until further notice. Persons who are hearing or speech impaired can apply by calling a special TTY number, 1-800-462-7585.

Residents who need information on the status of an application already filed or who have questions about the U.S. Small Business Administration low-interest loan program should visit the DRC before 7 p.m. on Saturday. After that date they should call the toll free numbers above.

On March 1, 2003, FEMA became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. FEMA's continuing mission within the new department is to lead the effort to prepare the nation for all hazards and effectively manage federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident. FEMA also initiates proactive mitigation activities, trains first responders, and manages the National Flood Insurance Program and the U.S. Fire Administration.
