Deadline to Apply for Flood Aid Extended to October 10

Charleston, WV -- West Virginian residents and business owners who suffered flood-related damages now have until October 10 to register for recovery assistance.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the West Virginia Office of Emergency Services today announced the extension of the deadline to give residents and business owners in the 24 disaster-designated counties more time to register. FEMA is still receiving 75 calls a day to apply for federal and state assistance.
"FEMA and the State of West Virginia want to ensure that every flood victim who needs help gets it," said Carlos Mitchell, federal coordinating officer. "We don't want anyone to miss out on recovery assistance for which they qualify."
Since the President's June disaster declaration, 13,775 people have called the FEMA teleregistration number at 1-800-462-9029 to apply for assistance. Persons with speech or hearing impairments should call TTY 1-800-462-7585. The lines are open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday.
"Calling FEMA is a crucial step on the road to recovery," said Stephen Kappa, state coordinating officer. "The state is on your side and so is the federal government, but we need to know who needs their help."
