Arlington, VA -- A legal assistance helpline and referral service has been established to aid those impacted by the September 11 Pentagon attack, The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announced today.

Effective immediately, the toll-free number, 1-866-606-0626, will operate between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m., seven days a week until further notice.

"In addition to the legal issues present in natural disasters - such as tenant/landlord disputes - this tragedy will raise questions related to insurance, taxes and other issues," Federal Coordinating Officer Tom Davies said.

"We continue to expand support services as quickly as we identify needs," State Coordinating Officer Michael Cline said. "We want to provide every possible tool to ease the challenges ahead."

Legal helpline staff will arrange for an American Bar Association lawyer to contact callers, or refer them to a lawyer in their geographic area. A single toll-free number, 1-866-606-0626, will be used nationwide.
