Using HAZUS-MH to Assess Tsunami Risk

Resource Record Cover Image Thumbnail - hz_bohn2_pres.gif The versatility of HAZUS-MH was demonstrated in this presentation by Bill Bohn of TetraTech during the first annual HAZUS Users Conference which was held concurrently with the ESRI International User Conference in San Diego, CA. The presentation focuses on non-traditional uses of HAZUS-MH to assess tsunami hazard. The current HAZUS-MH model be used to assess tsunami risk damage by generating earthquake, flood, and hurricane wind loss estimates; employing inundation maps used with HAZUS-MH inventory data; and by editing HAZUS-MH damage functions. Function components examined include: breaking wave forces, hydrostatic forces, buoyant forces, hydrodynamic forces, surge forces, and impact forces.
