Disaster Recovery Center in Weeping Water to Close Help is Still Available

LINCOLN, Neb -- The Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) in Weeping Water, Nebraska has closed. However, state and federal officials want residents to know that help is still just a phone call away.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) toll-free Helpline and registration number is available to those who have not yet applied for assistance, have questions, or want to check on the status of their application. The number is 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or TTY 1-800-462-7585. Both the Helpline and registration numbers are open daily from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The deadline to apply for assistance is July 24, 2004.

On March 1, 2003, FEMA became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. FEMA's continuing mission within the new department is to lead the effort to prepare the nation for all hazards and effectively manage federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident. FEMA also initiates proactive mitigation activities, trains first responders, and manages the National Flood Insurance Program and the U.S. Fire Administration.
