Recent warnings from the FDA have identified emerging evidence of psychiatric disorders and side effects that could adversely affect flying safety; therefore, the use of Chantix is no longer acceptable for aeromedical certification purposes.

Options for applicants using Chantix:
  1. Discontinue Chantix. You must be off the medication for at least 72 hours prior to resuming flying. Please provide us with a statement regarding the date the medication was discontinued.
  2. Continue to use Chantix. You must stop flying. Exercising the privileges of your medical would be in violation of Title 14 of the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR’s), Section 61.53, Operation During Physical Deficiency. You must provide us with a statement should you elect to remain on this medication.
