Oklahoma City, OK -- The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Helpline is open to those who need information on the status of their application or other disaster assistance information.

All that's necessary is a toll-free call to 1-800-621-FEMA (3362). Those who are hearing- or speech- impaired may call (TTY) 1-800-462-7585. The Helpline number is the same number used to register for disaster assistance, and it is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., seven days a week until further notice.

"The need for accurate and immediate information about federal and state disaster assistance or the status of an application is vital to every person who suffered losses as a result of the severe storms and tornadoes that began on May 8," Federal Coordinating Officer Justin DeMello said.

Personnel at the Helpline numbers are trained and courteous specialists who will give you the information you need without delay. It is an important resource for all applicants and can provide many services, including:

"The Helpline operators may not be able to answer every question, but they can refer callers to other agencies or organizations that can," added State Coordinating Officer Larry Culp.
