ALBANY, N.Y. -- If you have moved because of the recent flooding, the United States Postal Service encourages you to file a change-of-address form, according to State and federal disaster recovery officials.

Post offices in flooded areas are holding mail for those who have been displaced or who simply cannot get to the post office.

“If your postal carrier cannot get to you or if you can’t get to us, we’re holding your mail beyond the normal deadlines for pick-up,” said Public Affairs Officer Maureen Marion for the U. S. Postal Service, Upstate New York.

Marion advised that even if people are temporarily displaced, give the post office a change of address. It only takes a day or two to start getting your mail.”

Change-of-address forms are available at any U.S. Post Office, or ask for one from a local mail carrier. The U.S. Post Office is ready to help and will assist flood victims in filling out the form and the service is free.
