ALBANY, N.Y. -- The State of New York and federal recovery officials want to remind flood victims to register with FEMA and the State even if you have already registered with the American Red Cross, another voluntary agency, or have reported damage to county or local officials.

Registering with other agencies does not register you with FEMA or the State. The only way to get into the FEMA or State system for disaster aid is to call or register online.

Homeowners, renters, and business owners who had flood losses, and haven’t registered yet, should call the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) registration line at 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) to apply for disaster aid. Individuals with hearing or speech impairments should call (TTY) 1-800-462-7585. The lines are open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., daily. You can also register online at www.fema.gov.

The State of New York’s number for their Individual and Family Grant Program is 1-888-7-NYS-AID (1-888-769-7243) or (TTY) NYS Relay 711. The State telephone lines are open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday You can also register for State aid online at www.labor.state.ny.us.

FEMA manages federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident. FEMA also initiates mitigation activities, works with state and local emergency managers, and manages the National Flood Insurance Program. FEMA became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security on March 1, 2003.
