ALBANY, N.Y. -- Community Relations (CR) teams from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) are busy reaching out to those affected by the severe flooding that began on June 26.

Teams are canvassing neighborhoods with important disaster recovery information and coordinating with county emergency managers.

CR teams are encouraging flood victims to register with FEMA by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) (TTY 1-800-462-7585), with lines open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., and to register for the  State's Individual and Family Grant Program at 1-888-7-NYS-AID (1-888-769-7243) or (TTY) NYS Relay 711. State lines are open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

New York State and FEMA are working closely with community-based organizations, community leaders and public officials.

FEMA manages federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident. FEMA also initiates mitigation activities, works with state and local emergency managers, and manages the National Flood Insurance Program. FEMA became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security on March 1, 2003.
