Five More Disaster Assistance Centers To Open

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Five more assistance centers will open in Solano, Sonoma and Mendocino counties for individuals and business owners who suffered losses during the storms of December and January, the Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Governor’s Office of Emergency Services announced today.

Before visiting the centers, affected homeowners, renters and business owners should contact their insurance carriers and register for disaster assistance by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362), from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily, or by registering on line at www.FEMA.gov. The registration number is (TTY) 1-800-462-7585 for those who are speech- or hearing-impaired.

Four centers will open Friday:

One center will open Monday (Feb. 13):

All five centers will be 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays. The centers will be closed on Sundays.

Representatives of state agencies, voluntary agencies, FEMA, the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) and other federal agencies will be on hand to answer questions and provide information about disaster recovery.

FEMA prepares the nation for all hazards and manages federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident. FEMA also initiates mitigation activities, trains first responders, works with state and local emergency managers, and manages the National Flood Insurance Program and the U.S. Fire Administration. FEMA became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security on March 1, 2003.
