ROCHESTER, Minn. -- The residents of Dodge County are now eligible for Individual Assistance, according to officials from Minnesota Homeland Security and Emergency Management (HSEM) and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

Dodge County has been added to the list of counties previously made eligible for assistance following the storms and flooding that began Aug. 18 in southeastern Minnesota. The county now joins Fillmore, Houston, Olmsted, Steele, Wabasha and Winona counties.

“The decision to include Dodge County came after an in-depth damage assessment," said Federal Coordinating Officer Carlos Mitchell. “We will press forward until assistance is in the hands of every eligible Minnesota resident. The addition of Dodge County is crucial to its recovery."

Assistance may include grants to help with temporary housing, home repairs and other disaster-related expenses not met by insurance or other aid programs. It may also include disaster unemployment assistance and low-interest disaster loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) to homeowners, renters and businesses of all sizes to cover losses not fully compensated by insurance or other sources.

Those who had losses due to the severe storms and flooding are encouraged to register online at www.fema.gov or call 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or TTY 1-800-462-7585 for the speech- or hearing-impaired. The toll-free telephone numbers operate from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. (local time) seven days a week.

FEMA coordinates the federal government's role in preparing for, preventing, mitigating the effects of, responding to, and recovering from all domestic disasters, whether natural or man-made, including acts of terror.
