NRC FINDS NO
SIGNIFICANT ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT FROM |
|||||||||
The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission
has issued its final environmental impact statement on the proposed renewal
of the operating license of Unit 2, the nuclear power facility, at the H.B.
Robinson Steam Electric Plant. In the environmental impact statement, the NRC
staff found there are no environmental impacts that would preclude license renewal
for an additional 20 years of operation.
The H.B. Robinson nuclear facility is located 26 miles from Florence, South Carolina. The operating license for Unit 2 expires on July 31, 2010. Carolina Power & Light Co., the operator of the plant, submitted an application for renewal of the license on June 17, 2002. As part of its environmental review of the application, the NRC held public meetings near the plant to discuss the scope of the review and a draft version of the environmental impact statement for the facility. Comments were received from members of the public, local officials and representatives of State and other Federal agencies. Copies of the statement are available electronically through the NRC’s Agency-Wide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) on the NRC web site at: http://www.nrc.gov/reading-rm/adams/web-based.html. The report’s ADAMS accession number is ML033450517. Help in using ADAMS is available by contacting the NRC Public Document Room staff at 301-415-473, or 1-800-397-4209, or by sending a message to pdr@nrc.gov via e-mail. The report also is available for public inspection at the NRC’s Public Document Room, located at One White Flint North, 11555 Rockville Pike, Rockville, Maryland. |
