INSPECTION FUNCTIONS
FOR NUCLEAR FUEL MANUFACTURING FACILITIES ASSIGNED BY NRC TO ATLANTA REGIONAL
OFFICE ON OCTOBER 1 |
||
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission
has consolidated its nuclear fuel cycle inspection program in the United States
by assigning inspection and event response functions at commercial nuclear fuel
manufacturing facilities to its Region II office in Atlanta, effective October
1.
The move is designed to concentrate and improve the agency’s fuel cycle inspection program, formerly conducted by different NRC offices from its headquarters in Rockville, Maryland, its Region II office in Atlanta, its Region III office in Lisle, Illinois, and its Region IV office in Arlington, Texas. While Region II will now be responsible for the majority of the agency’s commercial nuclear fuel inspection and event response activities, the agency’s headquarters in Rockville will continue to provide regional inspection program oversight. The headquarters Office of Nuclear Material Safety and Safeguards also will retain the nuclear criticality safety inspection function, and the headquarters Office of Nuclear Security and Incident Response will conduct material control and accounting inspections. Regulatory oversight of the following facilities will be transferred to
Region II: Regulatory oversight of the following facilities, currently located in Region
II, will not be impacted: |
