NRC PROHIBITS
FORMER SENIOR REACTOR OPERATOR |
||
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission
has issued an order prohibiting a former senior reactor operator at the Waterford
3 nuclear power plant near Killona, Louisiana, from applying for or holding
an NRC reactor operator’s license for three years.
NRC took the action after Scott P. Wolfe twice tested positive for an illegal substance during random fitness-for-duty tests administered by his former employer, Entergy Operations, Inc. In issuing the order, effective immediately, Samuel J. Collins, the NRC’s Deputy Executive Director for Reactor Programs, said Mr. Wolfe had tested positive for an illegal substance in 1990 and signed a “re-entry agreement” in which he agreed to abstain from use of illegal drugs. On July17, Mr. Wolfe again tested positive for an illegal substance. His employment with Entergy was terminated on July 25, and the NRC terminated Mr. Wolfe’s senior operator’s license on August 26 . “The NRC holds licensed reactor operators to high performance standards and entrusts them with assuring the public health and safety in the operation of nuclear power plants,” Mr. Collins said in the Order. “Licensed reactor operators are expected to comply with all NRC requirements, including the fitness-for-duty requirements of the NRC (10CFR Part 26) and the facility at which they are employed. Mr. Wolfe’s actions have violated the NRC’s and the public’s trust and demonstrated that he can not be relied upon to comply with fitness-for-duty requirements.” Mr. Wolfe has 20 days from the date of the Order to respond or request a hearing. A copy of the Order and the letter notifying Mr. Wolfe of the enforcement action will be posted to the NRC web site at: www.nrc.gov/reading-rm/doc-collections/enforcement/actions/. |
