NRC LICENSING BOARD INVITES PUBLIC TO SPEAK
MARCH 23 AND 24 IN CALIFORNIA ON DIABLO CANYON PROPOSAL
Printable Version PDF Icon

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission’s Atomic Safety and Licensing Board invites members of the public to make brief statements at sessions it will hold, on March 23 and 24 in California, concerning the application of Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) for permission to construct and operate an independent spent fuel storage installation at its Diablo Canyon Power Plant site near San Luis Obispo, California.

The sessions for members of the public, known as "oral limited appearance statement sessions," will be held on Sunday, March 23, from 3 to 7 p.m., PST, and on Monday, March 24, from 10 a.m. to noon, PST; from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m., PST; and from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m., PST. All sessions will be held in the Embassy Suites Hotel, San Luis Obispo Room, 333 Madonna Road, San Luis, Obispo, California.

Those wishing to speak are encouraged to pre-register. Those pre-registered will have priority over ones who register on-site at the beginning of a session. To pre-register, a written request must be mailed, faxed or sent by e-mail so as to be received by the NRC by 4:30 p.m. EST on Friday, March 14.

All sessions will be held as scheduled unless there is insufficient interest expressed in the Sunday afternoon or Monday morning sessions, as reflected by the number of preregistered speakers. If the Board decides to cancel one of these two sessions, it will notify preregistered speakers, and the NRC's Office of Public Affairs will issue a press release. Interested persons may also call 301/415-5036 to hear a recorded message on the status of the sessions.

Additionally, the Licensing Board reserves the right to terminate a session before the ending time listed above if all speakers present have made a presentation.

Each speaker will be given up to five minutes, but may be further limited depending on the number of requests to make a statement. Although an individual may request an opportunity to speak at more than one session, the Board may defer an additional presentation by the same individual until after it has heard from speakers who have not had an opportunity to make an initial presentation.

Written requests to make an oral statement should be submitted by mail to the Office of the Secretary, Rulemakings and Adjudications Staff, U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Washington, D.C. 20555-0001; by fax to 301/415-1101; or by e-mail to hearingdocket@nrc.gov

A copy of the request should be sent to the Chairman of the Licensing Board as follows: by mail to Administrative Judge G. Paul Bollwerk, III, Atomic Safety and Licensing Board Panel, Mail Stop T-3F23, U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Washington, D.C. 20555-0001; by fax to 301/415-5599; or by e-mail to pah@nrc.gov and gpb@nrc.gov.

A written statement can be submitted at any time. Such statements should be sent in the same manner to the Office of the Secretary, with a copy to the Licensing Board Chairman.
