Printable Version PDF Icon

Nuclear Regulatory Commission officials will meet with Florida Power & Light Company management at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, January 31, at the St. Lucie nuclear power plant near Ft. Pierce to discuss the results of the agency’s second inspection of the plant’s license renewal program.

The meeting will be held at the Energy Encounter facility, located adjacent to the plant and will be open to public observation. NRC officials will be available prior to the close of the meeting to answer questions from interested observers. A report on the inspection will be issued approximately 45 days after the meeting and will be available to the public.

The inspection began in mid-January and is the second license renewal review at St. Lucie, conducted to verify that programs are in place to manage the material condition of the plant’s systems, structures and components.

The NRC conducted a similar meeting at the Energy Encounter in October to discuss results of the agency’s initial inspection of the St. Lucie license renewal program. FPL filed an application to renew the operating licenses of the two units at St. Lucie in November 2001, and a decision on the application is scheduled for later this year.
