Miami, FL -- South Florida residents who have not yet applied for federal disaster assistance as a result of the early October flooding are urged to do so, as only one month remains to apply. Monday, December 4, is the last day to file applications for most disaster assistance programs, according to federal and state disaster recovery officials.
Federal Coordinating Officer Justo Hernandez and State Coordinating Officer Shirley Collins urge anyone with losses from the flooding and severe storms that drenched four southeast Florida counties to apply immediately by calling the toll-free registration line at 1-800-462-9029. Operators are available between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. 7 days a week. Hearing or speech-impaired persons using special keyboard equipment should call 1-800-462-7585.
Renters, homeowners and business owners who live or do business in Broward, Collier, Miami-Dade, or Monroe counties may still be eligible for disaster aid. Assistance could include disaster-housing assistance, grants to meet essential disaster-related needs, and low-interest disaster loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration.
