Tucson, AZ -- Beginning Wednesday, August 6, through Saturday, August 9, 2003 (weather permitting), a contractor for the Pima County Flood Control District and the Natural Resource Conservation Service will perform aerial seeding and mulching operations in the Summerhaven area on Mt. Lemmon. A helicopter will be flying through the areas and dropping seeds and straw.

A map of the area of work will be available for residents and contractors at the base of Mt. Lemmon, at the public information center at Summerhaven, and at the www.aspenrecovery.org web site.

Residents and contractors are encouraged to be cautious when entering the seeding areas.

For aerial seeding information, please contact Joni Monroe, Pima County Flood Control, Community Outreach, at (520) 740-6509.

Pima County, the Arizona Division of Emergency Management (ADEM), and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) are partners in the recovery effort, following President Bush's July 14 declaration of the Aspen Fire as a national disaster.

On March 1, 2003, FEMA became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. FEMA's continuing mission within the new department is to lead the effort to prepare the nation for all hazards and effectively manage federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident. FEMA also initiates proactive mitigation activities, trains first responders, and manages Citizen Corps, the National Flood Insurance Program and the U.S. Fire Administration.
