Dededo, Guam -- FEMA Director and Acting Under Secretary for Emergency Preparedness and Response Directorate, a part of the Department of Homeland Security, Michael D. Brown, has announced that President George W. Bush signed documents amending the December 8 disaster declaration for Guam increasing the federal cost-share from the previous 75 percent to 90 percent. The authorization was based on special conditions and documentation, which warranted the adjustment of Federal funds.
The amendment includes federal funds for Public Assistance, including direct federal assistance and Hazard Mitigation Grant Programs, and for Other Needs Assistance under the Individuals and Households Program. The cost share reduction is effective back to the December 8 declaration date.
Federal Coordinating Officer David Fukutomi said, "This announcement is good news for Guam, and demonstrates FEMA's continued commitment to recovery efforts from Super Typhoon Pongsona," said Federal Coordinating Officer David Fukutomi. "The governor and his staff are to be commended for their direct government to government relationship they have established with FEMA, and for their hard work in providing documentation to support their 90/10 request, which met with nationwide FEMA guidelines for cost share adjustments."
