Dededo, Guam -- The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) would like to remind those individuals and businesses that applied for federal disaster assistance after Typhoon Chata'an last summer that they will need to reapply for assistance if they were also affected by Super Typhoon Pongsona in December.

"We know a number of people hit by Chata'an suffered increased losses after Pongsona," said Federal Coordinating Officer, David Fukutomi. "It is essential that they call our toll-free number again to register for any additional assistance for which they may qualify."

The application period for Typhoon Chata'an assistance closed on September 10, 2002, so applications are no longer being accepted. Super Typhoon Pongsona, which occurred on December 8, 2002, is considered a separate incident by FEMA, and therefore requires a separate application for assistance.

Individuals and businesses with damage from Pongsona are reminded that they have until February 18 to call the toll-free teleregistration number 1-800-621-3362 to file an application. People with speech- or hearing- impairments can call TTY 1-800-462-7585.

Those with questions about the status of their application are encouraged to either call the FEMA Helpline (the same number as that for teleregistration) or visit one of the Disaster Recovery Centers at the Yigo Gym, the University of Guam Field House or at the Inarajan Senior Center.
