Secretary of State Colin L. Powell traveled to Thailand, Kenya and Spain from October 16 to October 24, 2003. He first went to Bangkok, Thailand where he attended the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum ministerial meeting, before joining the President’s party.
 Secretary Powell traveled to Kenya on October 21 and 22. During this visit he met with senior Kenyan government officials to discuss a variety of bilateral issues, following up on the recent State Visit. Secretary Powell also engaged with the Sudanese parties to encourage progress in the peace process. The success of this process is an important Administration goal.
The Secretary continued on to Madrid, Spain to lead the U.S. delegation, together with Treasury Secretary Snow, to the International Conference for the Reconstruction of Iraq from October 23-24. Also see The New Iraq: Progress & the Path Forward [DSL/Cable] [dial-up] [audio] [transcript]
