Tropical Storm Dean formed from a tropical wave over
the Virgin Islands on August 22nd and a Hurricane Hunter plane indicated
winds near hurricane force later that day. The system encountered
an unfavorable environment the next day north of Puerto Rico and weakened
to a tropical wave. Winds to tropical storm force were reported in
the U.S. Virgin Islands and there was an estimated $2 million in damage
due to flooding in Puerto Rico. |
